A year is an eternity in IT

Well, It's been a while since this site has seen some tender loving care, but I've got back on the job after some cyber related activities and a re-established acquaintance reminded me that this place has a purpose.

I've changed jobs and started finding my feet in a new organisation. My last employer was a publicly listed global multi-national, and I specifically set my sights on getting in on the ground with a smaller company so I could exercise greater decision making in my day to day job. For the most part, it's worked out pretty well.

Woohoo ! On my way home again...

Howdy y'all.

A month is too long to spend away from the ones you love. I've begged, borrowed and stolen any excuse I could to get out of the clutches of the evil empire. As I write this I'm sipping on a locally brewed beer in the clyub lounge waiting to catch my flight back to the land of Oz where my bonnie lies waiting for me.

Oh yeah, and the mowing..., and the dishes..., nappie changies..., weekend family visits..., tax returns..., dental appointments..., management reviews..., bills, bills, bills....

By all accounts the At-ex Cyber MediaCommand lunch was a success, many old fogies with lots of plenty of spare time on their hands showed up when they should have been busy doing real jobs and making excuses like "..sorry, can't come, I'm in Malaysia.". Who me, bitter? Nah.

*sigh* The work of a system integrator is never done..

Hi All,

Been in Malaysia for 3 weeks now (does anyone remember Utusan?) working to implement my company's software into an international bank here in KL. This is the third trip (in the last 6 months) and the heat and food are starting to take their toll...

Got food poisoning over the weekend, got a half day's rest before I went sweating in the mid-day sun to the office 45 minutes across town. Fun.

Been working all night to assist developers to resolve issues, why can't they get a clue ? And why is it that "it works fine here..." seems to be the end of any discussion involving a crash or abnormal behavior. duh...
